Radiesse

Radiesse is a long-lasting wrinkle filler indicated for treatment of facial wrinkles and folds. Plastic surgeons frequently use Radiesse because it is biocompatible, durable and easy to use. The composition of Radiesse is unique. It is made with a substance called calcium hydroxylapatite or CaHA, a water-based gel that contains small calcium microspheres.

Candidates for Radiesse

Radiesse is FDA approved for treating moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, which are typically the nasolabial folds on each side of your mouth. A wide variety of facial contouring treatments may be appropriate. In some cases, the doctor may also recommend Radiesse for treating marionette lines, sunken cheeks, depressed scars, or for nasal contouring and augmentation. If you are affected by any of these conditions, Radiesse may be right for you.

What to Expect During Radiesse Treatment

Before treatment, the facial area is cleansed and topical anesthetic is administered for comfort. The doctor injects Radiesse beneath the skin at a specific depth. After your injection, the doctor briefly massages the area to promote a smooth result. When Radiesse combines with your tissue, it acts like a scaffolding for new collagen. Your body will gradually metabolize Radiesse and naturally clear it away.

Studies have show results with Radiesse lasting an average of 1 year. Most patients return for another treatment after about 12 to 18 months. Although side effects are uncommon, immediately after your injection, you may experience mild irritation, edema, swelling, itching, discoloration, or tenderness at the injection site.
