Dan Shell IV is a native of Jackson, MS. His family moved to Memphis, TN where his father has been a practicing plastic surgeon since 1981.
Dr. Shell graduated from Memphis University School and attended the University of Mississippi on an academic excellence scholarship. While at Ole Miss, Dr. Shell took part in numerous leadership roles on campus. He served as president of his fraternity and was elected Colonel Reb by the student body his senior year.
Dr Shell earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee where he graduated with highest honors. While in medical school, Dr Shell earned two academic scholarships, the Surgery department award for most outstanding student, and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society
.
Dr Shell completed his general surgery residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis under the leadership of Dr Timothy Fabian. During his general surgery training, Dr Shell was involved with several research projects and presented his work at national and state meetings. During his chief resident year he was elected by his peers as “most outstanding teaching resident.” He was certified by The American Board of Surgery in 2006.
Dr. Shell was accepted into the prestigious and internationally recognized Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham under the leadership of Dr Luis Vasconez. While at UAB, Dr Shell received a well-rounded training in the latest and most advanced techniques in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery.
Dr Shell lives in Oxford with his wife, Mary Anna, and two children William and Dan.
